(Stanton, MI) – The Montcalm Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program welcomed three new volunteers during a swearing-in ceremony held on July 14, 2025, at the 8th Circuit Court Building in Stanton. The Honorable Judge Charles W. Simon III administered the oath, officially bringing the number of active CASA volunteers in Montcalm County to 20.

Joining the team are James Hohler of Lakeview, Sarah Johnson of Stanton, and Casey Mumby of Gowen—each having completed the program’s rigorous 30-hour training to prepare for this vital role in the child welfare system.

Friends, family, court staff, CASA board members, and fellow volunteers gathered to celebrate the milestone and congratulate the new advocates on their commitment to making a difference in the lives of children.

“We are excited to welcome these new volunteers and are continually grateful for the strong support we receive from our agency partners and the broader community,” said Jamie Gorby, Montcalm CASA Program Director. “Our work relies on collaboration, and these volunteers will help ensure that children’s needs are identified, communicated, and met in the most effective and compassionate ways possible.”

About Montcalm CASA
Montcalm CASA is a program administered by EightCAP, Inc., a Community Action Agency serving Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, and Montcalm counties. CASA trains and supports volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the Montcalm County Juvenile Court system. Volunteers are assigned to individual cases, advocating for the child’s best interests in court until a safe, permanent home is secured.

For many children, a CASA volunteer may be the only consistent adult in their lives during a time of trauma and uncertainty. Their advocacy ensures that the child’s voice is heard, and their best interests are prioritized.
