(Stanton, MI) – EightCAP, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Greenville Area Community Foundation (GACF) has awarded a $7,220 grant to strengthen and sustain the Montcalm Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. The funding will enhance volunteer training, provide essential program supplies, and ensure continued support for local children involved in the child welfare system.
Funds from the Greenville Area Community Foundation will help send ten CASA volunteers and one staff member to the Michigan CASA Annual State Conference, a vital training opportunity that keeps advocates informed about current child welfare issues and reinforces their skills and motivation. The grant will also support the recruitment and training of four new volunteers in 2026, helping the program maintain and grow its team of dedicated advocates.
In addition, grant funds will cover essential items such as training materials, identification badges, business cards, and locking case files for new volunteers, as well as emotional support items for children, including winter clothing, weighted vests, journals, art supplies, and stuffed animals—to help build trust and promote emotional well-being.
“We are deeply grateful to the Greenville Area Community Foundation for recognizing the vital role CASA volunteers play in the lives of vulnerable children,” said Jamie Gorby, Montcalm CASA Program Coordinator. “This support ensures our volunteers are well-trained, well-equipped, and emotionally supported to advocate for children who need a consistent and caring voice during a difficult time in their lives.”
Montcalm CASA operates under EightCAP, Inc. in partnership with the Montcalm County Juvenile Court. The program recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who are sworn in by the court to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers get to know each child, gather information, and make recommendations to help the court make informed decisions that support the child’s safety, stability, and well-being.
Since losing federal VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) funding in 2020, Montcalm CASA has continued to serve children through limited local funding, donations, and grants like this one from GACF. The Greenville Area Community Foundation’s investment helps ensure that at least 50 children in Montcalm County will receive enhanced advocacy and comfort items through CASA in the coming year.
